Explore your genes: discover your past

Sunday 17 March: 12:00pm - 4:00pm

The Guildhall, Market Square, CB2 3QJ

Join genetic counsellors, doctors and clinical scientists from the CUH Medical Genetics department on a journey to uncover your genetic ancestry.

Participants can pit their minds (and fingers) against a Next Generation Sequencing Computer to see how quickly they can sort through genetic sequence to find the mutations. The effect of genetic mutations can range from changing eye colour to causing severe genetic disease.

Having sequenced their subject, participants can then attempt to use common changes in DNA to identify the individual’s possible genetic origins from around the world using the same basic principles employed by current DNA ancestry kits.
