Human Research Tissue Bank

What do samples of human tissue look like under the microscope? Find out what happens in a Tissue Bank. Have a go at preparing a microscope slide of human tissue.

• Model torso with organs to take out and replace
• Cassette printer for children to type their name and print it onto a tissue processing cassette
• Laptop with looping video of microtomy (section cutting from paraffin wax blocks)
• Microscope to look at H&E stained sections of normal and diseased tissue
• Floating and separating of paraffin wax sections on warm water bath (40oC). Mounting a section onto a glass microscope slide.

Visitors are recommended to visit the Cambridge Biomedical Campus by foot, bicycle or bus but if you need to drive, reduced price parking has been arranged in Car Park 1. On leaving please take the un-validated parking ticket to the car park Customer Service desk, say you have been to Cambridge Science Festival to be charged just £2.90.
