Outside it seems to be a shipping container much like any other. Inside though, it’s a fortress of ideas – intimate and intense, alluring but alarming, contained yet spilling over.

Unkindest Cut confines and entwines dance, performance, text, film and an intricate light installation to explore how our own minds cope – and sometimes don’t – with modern life, confronting audiences at close quarters with complex issues around young people and mental health. It integrates young voices and stories into the heart of the work to create a world that is emotionally rich, dark, captivating and sensitive. Whilst offering a safe space for audiences to reflect, this performance creates a landscape of experiences as emotionally charged as it is thought-provoking, as stimulating as it is unforgettable.

“Unkindest Cut: Harm and Harmony in your Head” is a national touring show accompanied by discussion events at six science festivals across the UK, Sidmouth, Oxford, Battle, Swansea, Nottingham and Cambridge, coordinated by Sadhana Dance and IF Oxford with support from Arts Council England National Lottery Projects Grant and The Wellcome Trust.

The installation, Unkindest Cut is a collaboration with audio visual artists Kathy Hinde and Matthew Olden and lighting designer Aideen Malone. It was developed in association with Consultant Adolescent Psychiatrist, Dr Partha Banerjea and the South London and Maudsley Adolescent Mental Health Services.

Sadhana Dance creates emotionally engaging work driven by the confluence of arts and science. It is distinctive for its cross art form collaborations and themes.
It has toured nationally and internationally, a number of critically acclaimed shows including: Under My Skin, The Shiver and Elixir. Sadhana regularly collaborate with renowned and award winning artists and scientists.
