Diabetes risk factors: can we tell your health fortune?

Sunday 24 March: 11:00am - 4:00pm

Cambridge Academy for Science and Technology, Robinson Way(Close to the Junction of Robinson Way and Long Road), CB2 0SZ

At the MRC Epidemiology Unit we investigate the interplay between many factors that contribute to the development of health conditions such as obesity and type 2 diabetes. Some of these factors are things we can change, such as our diet, while others are things we can’t, such as the genes we’re born with.

Our scientists use a wide range of technologies in our laboratories, and studies involving anything from a few dozen to half a million participants, to discover how much different factors influence our risk of developing disease. We can then use this information to guide the development of measures that can improve our health as individuals and communities.

Visit our stand to try your luck with a series of fun challenges that illustrate how we measure risk factors, and find out if we can use them to tell our health fortunes.

Visitors are recommended to visit the Cambridge Biomedical Campus by foot, bicycle or bus but if you need to drive, reduced price parking has been arranged in Car Park 1. On leaving please take the un-validated parking ticket to the car park Customer Service desk, say you have been to Cambridge Science Festival to be charged just £2.90.
