Get hands-on with cancer research in Cambridge

11:00am-4:00pm on Saturday 16 March

Times shown are in GMT (UTC +0) up to the 26th March. For events on or after 27th March times are in BST (UTC +1).

Cambridge Academy for Science and Technology, Robinson Way (Close to the Junction of Robinson Way and Long Road), CB2 0SZ

Join the programmes and institutes of the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Centre in the CAST Building to get hands-on with our ground-breaking science as we tell the full story of the cancer research being undertaken by scientists and clinicians across Cambridge!

Together with our fundamental researchers, you’ll find out how to design your own experiments and will pop on detective hats to crack the CRISPR code. Will you be triumphant in pipetting Battleships and who will build the best edible DNA model?!

Take part in our fairground favourites of Hook a Duck, Pin the Tail on the Donkey and Turn the Key, all with a scientific twist to show how we design and test new diagnostics and anti-cancer treatment approaches.

Or practise your clinical skills by performing both open and keyhole surgery, and join in with some radiotherapy-based community artwork. You’ll even be able to make your own blood soup to see how immunotherapies are revolutionising cancer treatments.

We’ll also be looking at the future of cancer research and care. Step inside a virtual-reality tumour, tackle personalised medicine in our table-top escape room, and enjoy a multi-sensory experience of a new state-of-the-art project to understand how cancer develops in children. Finally, you’ll discover how Cambridge is changing the story of cancer with our plans to build a new Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital.

Our interactive exhibits will include hands-on experiments, informative demonstrations, and plenty of fun activities for children and adults of all ages!
