Is the Milky Way special?

Friday 22 March: 5:00pm - 6:00pm

Department of Chemistry, BMS Lecture Theatre, Lensfield Road, CB2 1EW

We are on the verge of finally getting to know our celestial neighborhood. With new missions mapping our surroundings in unprecedented detail, this is an excellent time to ask whether there’s anything notable about our home galaxy.

Dr Chris Lintott, University of Oxford, draws on cutting-edge research and results from his own Galaxy Zoo project to compare the Milky Way to the other galaxies which surround us, and ask whether we’re living in a special time in its history.

Chris will also include at least one picture of penguins and will explain how astronomers need your help to explore the Universe!
