The Reckoning - In conversation

7:30pm-9:30pm on Wednesday 20 March

Times shown are in GMT (UTC +0) up to the 26th March. For events on or after 27th March times are in BST (UTC +1).

Cambridge Junction, J3 , Clifton Way, CB1 7GX

Join Artistic Director Josephine Burton in conversation about the company’s new documentary theatre production The Reckoning, following several through-provoking productions telling Ukrainian stories by Dash Arts.

Experience performance excerpts from the script and hear more about the production, contextualised by Rory Finnin, Professor of Ukrainian Studies at the University of Cambridge, through engaging insights on the interplay of literature and national identity in Ukraine, solidarity and human rights discourse.

Rooted in witness testimonies of the Russian war in Ukraine, the play follows the story of journalist Iryna who embarks on an extraordinary interview with one of the survivors. Together, they navigate a town scarred by conflict, where abandoned dogs and shattered cars bear witness to the aftermath.

The conversation explores how the creative team gained access to the vast testimony archive of The Reckoning Project, how we’ve approached working with the people involved and the interviews gathered, and the questions we asked ourselves in the process.

A short excerpt of the play will be performed as part of the evening.

In partnership with The Reckoning Project, Cambridge Junction, and the University of Cambridge. Funded by Open Society Foundation, Fritt Ord Foundation, Goethe-Institut in Exile, and individual giving, with further kind support from Gorki Theatre.
